Brazilian Modern Chairs in Hardwood & Cane by Alexandre Rapoport, 1960s, Brazil
Located in New York, NY
Available today, this pair of midcentury modern chairs made in Brazilian Rosewood, known as Jacaranda & Cane designed by Alexandre Rapoport in the 1960’s are gorgeous! The delicate set features a Rosewood structure with caning in the seat. The Brazilian Rosewood is nothing less than spectacular and displays vibrant wood veins that almost feel the chairs are alive! The pair is extremely light weight, as a result of the Jacaranda's aging process. Extensive logging has virtually eliminated Rosewood from the Brazilian forests, so that today it is not supposed to be logged. The only material that can be sold legally is old stock. By owning a vintage piece made of old Jacaranda, you’re not only getting a beautiful collectible but also helping this species to recuperate. This gorgeous set would look great in any mid century modern, modern, contemporary environment used as dining or accent chairs. About the author, Alexandre Rapoport (Rio de Janeiro, 1929) is a Brazilian painter, architect, draftsman and engraver. Self-taught of Russian origin, he began painting at the Faculty of Architecture before the end of the 1950s. He studied drawing with Ubi Paiva and, while a student, attended engraving classes by Raymundo Cella at the National School of Fine Arts; it was then that he participated in his first group exhibitions promoted by the Federal Government. He had contact with Cândido Portinari...

Canoa Armchairs by Gelli, Mid-Century Modern- 60'
By Gelli Indústria de Móveis
Located in Houston, TX
Currently available for acquisition, these exquisite examples of Brazilian Mid-Century Modern , known as the "Gelli Armchairs," epitomize the ingenuity and design prowess of their era. Crafted from a harmonious fusion of hardwood and linen, these armchairs stand as a testament to the artistic vision of their time. The combination of Brazilian hardwood and gray linen creates a captivating aesthetic, while the seat and backrest are luxuriously enveloped in white suede. This particular model, aptly named "Canoa" (Canoe), draws inspiration from the distinctive canoes indigenous to the tropical rainforests of Brazil. Meticulously re-upholstered and with the wood refinished, this set of armchairs exhibits a remarkable state of preservation. The passage of time, evidenced by the subtle marks that adorn the surface, only enhances its character, further attesting to its authenticity. Both armchairs bear the manufacturer's plaque discreetly positioned beneath the seat and are sold as a cherished pair. These Brazilian Modern marvels effortlessly integrate into a variety of environments, from Mid-Century Modern and contemporary spaces to the boho chic or opulent Hollywood Regency-styled homes. The timeless allure of these pieces is demonstrated through vintage and contemporary publications, showcasing their enduring popularity across the years. "Gelli Móveis...
