Antique Caucasian Prepedil Rug in Ivory Background From Late 19th Century.
This magnificent late 19th century antique Caucasian Prepedil rug displays a superb Caucasian arabesque accompanied by symbolic devices and protective borders. Crenellated fence guard-bands wind around the perimeter of the field along with beautifully colored main borders that feature stacked lozenges embellished by colorful cruciform florets. The richly decorative field showcases a fantastically graphic all-over arabesque with bold contrasting colors that blur the boundaries between background and foreground. Protective eye motifs, combs and berekets enhance the decorative, beautifully angular arabesque. Botanical figures, flowers and branching leaflets adorn the distinctive hexagonal compartments, which are linked by scrolling vines that create a tremendous latticed arabesque.
