About the Item

Hand-knotted in wool and originating from 1900, most likely from the Azerbaijani region of the Caucusus, this 3x8 antique rug is a very special addition to the Rug & Kilim Collection. On the Design: Admirers of the craft will admire this outstanding antique Caucasian Kuba rug—a one-of-a-kind masterpiece new to the collection. Designers and admirers of the craft alike will particularly appreciate its size—one of the best and most versatile one can find in Antique rugs of its period that lends to so many spaces today. Keen eyes will further admire the deft hand such finely drawn polychromatic patterns enjoy in this piece, and the overall balance of an elegant, yet comfortable mood—an exemplary find in Indian rugs of its period. The masterpiece boasts a delicious stepped diagonal pattern cocooning a well defined geometric design in shades of red, beige-brown and blue alternating in color. Connoisseurs may note that one of the marks of true Caucasian weaving is in the three finest outer borders, which can often be found in works like this piece—a subtle, but very telling quality that further speaks to this runner as a rare, collectible piece for both the connoisseur and designer alike. Condition: This antique Caucasian Kuba rug is in great condition for its age and origin, making it a very special piece from this provenance.
