About the Item

A very finely knotted Lavar Kirman workshop rug, characterised by a directional design known as 'millefleurs' on a dark indigo blue background. The name of this pattern derives from that used to define a group of early Medieval tapestries. It consists of a profusion of botanical elements, blossoming in an imaginary Garden of Paradise. The very fine weaving quality allows for precise detail in the rendition of the pattern. The effortless yet carefully planned floral arrangement imparts a very relaxed mood of the composition, where each motif is highlighted through the contrast with the dark background. The pattern is drawn in such a way to appear as if extending beyond the limits imposed by the inner guard border. This exquisite rug is certainly a prime example of Kirman workshop weaving. It is of a quality that is normally associated with the work of celebrated court designers, who would typically be identified through an inscription on the top border. The excellent condition allows to fully appreciate the beauty of this precious weaving.
