About the Item
A pair of Zebra design rugs, contemporary production, in style of Art Deco, hand knotted, using finest Tibetan highland wool.
A Tibetan tiger rug, hand knotted in Nepal.
This Zebra rug design is typically found in a few and rare antique Chinese rugs. Different Auction Houses referred to Oliver Hill as designer, having the original design made by Nichols Carpet Company for the European and American market.
Our new collection of Zebra Tiger rugs is made in different material combinations. The displayed rug is made of 100% Tibetan hand spun wool. Total pile height about 1/3-inch, Knot density 150 Tibetan knots per square inch. It has a wool-white background and motifs in black. I have one at home using it as Yoga Mat - works great.
This rug has a fantastic feel, very soft and smooth. We can produce this design in sizes up to 20 x 16 ft on order. Other color combinations are possible. Goes great with Art Deco or Hollywood Regency interior design, but will be an eye catcher in any room, no matter if it is a living room, dining room or bedroom. Interior designers welcome.

An Art Deco Zebra design rug, contemporary production, in style of antique Chinese rugs, hand knotted, using finest Tibetan highland wool.

A real eye catcher. The zebra pattern on this rug is based on a design from the 1920s. In the Art Deco era, "animal" patterns were very popular. At various auction houses, including Sotheby's London and Lyon & Turnbull Glasgow, the designs for these pieces from the 1920s were assigned to the English architect Oliver Hill (1887 - 1968), who is said to have had such carpets made in Tiensin in North China for Nichols of London. Unfortunately we cannot find any evidence of this. We produce these carpets as a new edition in the classic size of 200 x 120 cm / 7 x 4 ft. Other formats are also possible on request.
