About the Item

This hand-loomed Tibetan wool blanket is a rare vintage piece. Its thick pile would have been used for sleeping on or under during the cold nights in the Himalayas. In Tibet, it would also have been draped around the shoulders as a blanket. Today, it could serve multiple purposes, including as an area rug or wall hanging. This rich chocolate brown color is harder to find than the traditional white wool blanket. Featuring two bold red end panels along the top and bottoms, it is a fashionable accessory piece for many different styles of interior design. It was hand-woven on a small loom from excellent highland Tibetan wool, giving it its wonderful natural deep cocoa brown color with natural variation. This piece has a special brown wool patch. Sewn together from 5 individual panels, this is the traditional nomadic technique for making traditional carpets in the Himalayan mountains. This rug would be suitable as a throw rug in a low traffic area such as a bedroom or it could be used as a throw on a sofa in cold weather. This piece comes from Joseph Carini's private reserve collection of vintage textiles and rugs. Dimensions: 5'8" (W) x 5’6’’ (L) Materials: Wool Reference #35687
