About the Item
78810 Vintage Chinese Silk Qum Rug, 03'01 x 04'11. Hand-knotted viscose vintage Chinese Qum rugs are intricately woven floor coverings that draw inspiration from traditional Persian Qum rugs, blending Persian aesthetic and design elements with Chinese weaving techniques and materials. Crafted from viscose, a synthetic fiber known for its silky texture, sheen, and softness, these rugs mimic the luxurious feel of natural silk while retaining vibrant colors. The hand-knotted construction, involving the meticulous process of individually tying each knot by hand, ensures durability and intricate detailing. The designs of these rugs often feature elaborate floral motifs, medallions, arabesques, and botanical patterns, replicating the elegance and sophistication associated with Persian Qum rugs. Vintage Chinese Qum rugs thus offer a unique blend of traditional Persian design and modern Chinese craftsmanship, providing a luxurious and elegant addition to nearly any home decor.
Behold the enchanting allure of this hand-knotted silky vintage Chinese Qum rug, a masterpiece that encapsulates the essence of Persian-inspired design. The central medallion, resplendent in rich burgundy and intricately outlined in golden tones, radiates from a serene beige field, creating a striking focal point. Surrounding this medallion, an exquisite array of floral motifs unfurls, featuring blooming palmettes, lotus blossoms, and stylized arabesques that interweave with elegant precision. Each element harmoniously blends to form a captivating botanical pattern, evoking a sense of timeless beauty and sophistication.
The rug's border, a testament to meticulous craftsmanship, is adorned with lush floral bouquets and lotus blossoms, creating a lush enclosure that frames the central design. The deep burgundy backdrop of the border provides a dramatic contrast to the lighter central field, enhancing the overall visual impact. Delicate vines and tendrils meander through the floral motifs, adding a layer of intricate detail that captivates the eye. The combination of these elements in a harmonious color palette of burgundy, gold, beige, and pale blue results in a visually stunning piece that exudes elegance and grace.
Crafted with high-quality viscose, this rug offers a luxurious sheen and a soft, silky texture underfoot, making it not only a visual delight but also a tactile pleasure. The fine knotting technique ensures durability and longevity, making this vintage Chinese Qum rug a cherished addition to any home. Whether placed in a living room, bedroom, or study, its ornate pattern and refined color combination will elevate the ambiance, adding a touch of sophistication and warmth to your space. Embrace the timeless beauty and intricate artistry of this exquisite rug, and let it become the centerpiece of your decor.

Antique Persian Sarouk Area Rug
Located in New York, NY
Sarouk is a name of a village situated about 25 miles north of Arak (Sultanabad). This region became one of the most active regions of carpet weaving in the late 19th century through the early 20th century. The city's most famous designer was named Farahan. To be able to compete with Kashan in rug commerce, Farahan designed rugs with center medallion motives. Today, these carpets are referred to as Antique 19th century Farahan Sarouks.
In the 1920s and 1930s a well-known rug dealer in New York thought that Americans would buy rose-field carpets with blue borders and detached floral motives. During that period, a vast number of Sarouks with rose-fields and all over floral patterns were woven and exported to the American market. However, the natural dyed rose color did not stand up to the alkaline bath to which new rugs in Arak were subjected in the finishing process. The rose color faded radically. But instead of changing the finishing process or changing the composition of the dyes to stand up to alkali, New York merchants "solved" the problem by arming their staffs with synthetic dyes and little paint brushes with which they painted back in the rose-color in the entire fields of thousands and thousands of rugs and carpets over a period of 20 years. Today, Antique Sarouk rugs and carpets...
