Antique Amritsar Rug in Red Open Field with Floral Medallion, from Rug & Kilim

About the Item

This is a very 6x8 rare antique Amritsar rug from India, hand-knotted in wool and believed to originate from India circa 1920-1930. On the Design: Connoisseurs may admire this design with a rich, saturated red open field underscores a finely detailed floral medallion, sporting the same gold, bright blue and green tones as the borders. Admirers of the craft will note the colors and size of this piece are particularly collectible for works of this provenance—almost certainly a custom commission of its period. Admirers of the craft will further appreciate the detail and the dedication of Indian weavers to create such an immersive look. A distinctive style for its lineage, the marriage of remarkable color palette and variation and intricacy in detail lavishes this thoughtful piece with an idyllic charm. This rug is one of the most wonderful plays of classic art and aristocratic sensibility together, playing the two into a look that’s unique to every one of them, but arguably never more unique than in this masterpiece. Condition: This antique Amritsar rug further enjoys great condition for its age and origin, and is ready for the floor. It is an unusual and collectible piece with charm and personality like no other.
