About the Item
Early 20th Century Indian Carpet with Garrus Design ( 15'8" x 17'8"- 477 x 538 )
Indian weavers are adept at interpreting any existing design into original formats. Here the split arabesque Garrus Bijar pattern on dark blue has been precisely expanded into a large, square format carpet. An ivory border of colorful open palmettes makes a consistent frame. The general tonality is slightly more mellow than the original, but the format is never found in Bijar carpets. The weave is close and the pile is compact.
