Royal Massive Antique Agra Carpet

About the Item

Indian carpets demonstrate very high knot density, fine weaves, and crisp designs testament to the exemplary workmanship of Indian weavers. The sub-continent is blessed with a diverse set of natural dye sources that contribute to the many color palettes found in Indian carpets. Situated at the heart of woven carpet production in India from the Mughal period up until the end of British rule, Agra carpets are synonymous with woven productions of the Indian sub-continent. Indian carpets demonstrate very high knot density, fine weaves, and crisp designs testament to the exemplary workmanship of Indian weavers. A beautifully inlaid central cruciform medallion of copper and hunter green on a sea of deep burgundy forms the essence of this grandiose, oversized carpet. Stylized palmettes, tendrils, and leaves occupy the field in a very intricately drawn fashion. On the four corners of the rug are pale turquoise spandrels that offer a soothing resting spot for the eyes. Framing the carpet is a majestic hunter green border with palmettes and stylized leaves and a burgundy outer guard strip accentuating the piece. Overall, the carpet is a very elegant piece fit for any large room and for someone seeking warmth, eloquence, and an interesting color palette.
