About the Item
Beautiful creamy white antique Moroccan rug with classical brown cross designs forming diamonds. Beautiful minimalist, modern style, yet holds a deep meaning and history. It has beautiful sheen from the natural wool's lanolin, which creates a silky effect. Long braided tassels hang from one end. Handmade by the Beni Ourain tribe from the most northeastern part of the Middle Atlas of Morocco in the late 20th century.
On the backside of the rug, a story of a war is woven. There are airplanes, missiles, bombs, people and dates. While the exact history is unknown, the illustrations suggest the tribe wanted to weave elements of the war into this rug as a transcription, which is common in ancient cultures.
This rug has a relatively low pile and is worn overall with thicker pile in places. It is woven in excellent non-commercial handspun wool from sheep in the high mountains that is slightly grey as it typically is in the really old and patinated rugs. The glossy wool and natural raw colors give this rug a captivating effect. In excellent condition for its age and is a fine collectible rug. A one of a kind, unique handmade carpet. This authentic Moroccan rug is very unusual and rare.
Perfect for contemporary use, whether in a midcentury modern space or a contemporary interior. Also could be used as a tapestry or wall hanging. Whether used as a wall hanging or a rug on the floor, this is a high quality, beautiful and captivating authentic piece. This rug could look wonderful styled in a beach house or a ski lodge.
