Vintage Native American Navajo Area Rug
Located in Barrington, IL
Beautifully preserved early 20th-century Navajo area rug, handwoven in the American Southwest, this piece is a striking example of traditional Navajo craftsmanship. The rug features a bold central medallion design, framed within a harmonious palette of oatmeal, warm brown, soft gray, and rich red, all derived from natural organic dyes.
Executed with fine hand-spun wool on a cotton foundation, the rug boasts a high knot density and meticulous flat weave, indicative of the skill and care that went into its creation. The soft oatmeal ground provides a subtle yet elegant backdrop for the sharp, symbolic geometric motifs, which carry deep spiritual and cultural significance within Navajo tradition.
This piece remains in original condition with some wear throughout. As with many Navajo textiles, the balance of color, symbolism, and technique results in a rug that is not only functional, but also highly collectible and decorative, ideally as wall art.
Dimensions: 3’ x 4’ 4”
Date of Manufacture: 1st Quarter of the 1900s
Place of Origin: SW America

Small Zenues Rug by Sebastian Herkner

Small zenues rug by Sebastian Herkner
Materials: 100 % natural virgin wool.
Technique: Hand-woven in Colombia.
Dimensions: W 160 x L 220 cm
Available in size large.
The striking zenues rug, a design by Sebastian Herkner, is inspired by old Colombian civilizations. When visiting the jewelry museum in Bogota, the designer discovered the gold works by the Zenu culture, which are decorated with so-called Narigeura symbols. These peoples lived in the Caribbean plains, through which the three large rivers Magdalena, Cauca, and San Jorge flow. Routinely they’d flood the fields so the Zenúes built a vast system of channels covering more than 500,000 hectares, controlling the flow of the water so that people and harvest would be protected. These landscapes inspired first the goldsmiths of the Zenúes – and now Sebastian Herkner. “These graphic objects have intrigued me for quite a while. Their symbolism is so narrative and expressive”, says the designer. The result: a subtle, yet striking, wool rug with various pile depths in a gentle crème white.
Each rug is woven with natural virgin wool on traditional looms in ateliers in the Colombian Andes. The ‘channels’ of the monochrome rugs...

Antique Navajo Rug, Dimond Design
Located in Evanston, IL
Embark on a journey into the past with our rare and captivating Antique Navajo Rug, a magnificent textile masterpiece that captures the essence of history and craftsmanship. Dating back to the 1920s-1930s, this rug is a testament to the skill and artistry of the Navajo people.
With its massive dimensions measuring 50 by 92 inches, this Navajo weaving is a true marvel. What sets it apart is its unique whitish tan background, a departure from the traditional grey, achieved through the use of natural-colored yarns. This distinctive choice adds an air of elegance and rarity to this already exceptional piece.
The Dimond design, closely related to Ganado, takes on its own identity through its iconic Ganado Red and the central focus on an elongated. The influence of oriental design is evident in the border design adorning the diamond, offering a cross-cultural connection that speaks to the rich tapestry of artistic influences.
A border of steeped red triangles adds an extra layer of depth and dimension, while full and half grey diamonds adorned with arrows and feathers at the corners weave stories of tradition and symbolism.

Vintage Native American Indian Navajo Rug with Geometric Bands in Earth Tones
Located in Barrington, IL
A beautifully woven vintage Navajo rug from the third quarter of the 20th century, this textile showcases a bold banded and striped design in warm, organic hues. Major geometric bands in burgundy and gray are set against a soft taupe background, accented by narrow caramel and pale yellow stripes that create visual rhythm and balance.
Handwoven using traditional flat-weave techniques, this piece features a wool body with a cotton foundation, in keeping with authentic Navajo weaving practices. The colors are derived from natural, plant-based dyes sourced locally by Navajo artisans, reflecting a deep connection to the landscape and cultural heritage of the Southwest.
While this rug was originally intended for use on the floor, it also serves beautifully as tapestry wall art, bringing a striking and meaningful design element to any interior. The geometric motifs within the pattern often carry spiritual symbolism and ancestral significance, making this rug not only decorative but culturally rich.
Ideal for collectors, designers, and admirers of Native American artistry, this piece stands as a timeless example of indigenous textile craftsmanship.
