About the Item

Medium Oruga Subas rug by Sebastian Herkner Materials: 100% natural virgin wool. Technique: Naturally dyed fibers. Hand-woven in Colombia. Dimensions: W 200 x L 300 cm Available in colors: karo, linea 1, linea 2, moton, oruga. The Subas Karo rug, available in three sizes, is a subtle, monochrome design by Sebastian Herkner, who experimented with mixing different structures and surfaces. The entirely handmade piece combines a stripe and checks pattern as well as various pile heights and weaving techniques, giving the wool rug a contemporary feel while showcasing the artful craftsmanship of the Colombian weavers. It’s understated, yet the intriguing design that’s great for adding textures to any room. Each rug is manufactured in family-run workshops located in Suba, a suburb of Colombia’s capital Bogotá. The craftspeople there have learned the techniques to process sheep wool from previous generations. Alone the preparation of the wool takes three days, while the artesanos and artesanas work 15 days on producing the final rug. German designer Sebastian Herkner is a long-term collaborator of Ames and has visited Colombia multiple times to experience the country’s cities, nature and people first hand. He also visited many of the ateliers that Ames has partnered with to learn about the unique traditional crafts of Colombia's regions. A sought-after contemporary designer and recipient of many industry awards, he has worked with many international design brands, creating intriguing pieces that showcase his intuition for interesting material, color, and texture combinations.

Contemporary Handmade Persian Flat-Weave Kilim Accent Rug
Located in New York, NY
A modern Persian flat-weave Kilim accent rug handmade during the 21st century. Measures: 3' 5" x 6' 8" Flat-weave rugs & carpets: Knotted pile rugs are just one small part of a vast universe of textile techniques suitable for heavy use. If you can imagine it, some weaver has tried it out. Pieces can be roughly divided into those reversible from the start and those never, or at least not initially, reversible. Thus, kilims are considered reversible, while everything else is not. Kilims are tapestry woven rugs with both sides the same, in either slit technique where colors change, or with various methods of avoiding slits. Slit tapestry weave goes back to ancient times and Coptic Egyptian...
