Vintage American Pictorial Hand Hooked Rug of a Bird on a Tree Branch
About the Item
Vintage American hand hooked pictorial rug in a wonderful depiction of a bird on a tree branch. The rug has a delightful design and colors. We are intrigued with the novelty and the imagination of the maker in creating such a wonderful and rare design in great colors that would make this piece a wonderful wall art.
The American hooked rugs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries were made with recycled old clothing and feed sack material. The material was washed and then cut into narrow stripes. The foundation of hooked rugs is generally burlap material which the maker uses the stenciling technique to transfer the pattern into the surface. The use of special design and the brilliant colors makes this truly an artistic piece wonderful to be used as a wall art or displayed on a table. Antique Hooked Rugs are a combination of Folk Art Creativity and Simplicity.

Vintage Native American Navajo Pictorial Tree of Life
Located in Barrington, IL
This wonderfully simple yet deeply beautiful vintage Navajo rug features the iconic Tree of Life design—a powerful symbol in Navajo culture representing growth, connection, and harmony between the earth and the spiritual world.
Set against a soft ivory background, the central tree motif rises from the land toward the heavens, its branches gracefully adorned with colorful birds, each one unique in hue and form. The design is framed by a striking turquoise inner border and a grounding brown outer border, creating a balanced and visually compelling composition.
Woven flat with hand-spun wool and a cotton foundation, this rug exemplifies the time-honored techniques of Navajo textile artistry. The weavers employ natural, plant-based dyes sourced from the land around their tribal communities, ensuring that each piece is both organic and deeply rooted in place.
More than a textile, this rug is a cultural statement—rich in symbolism and spirit. Its refined aesthetic and meaningful design make it an ideal choice for use as a wall tapestry or as a centerpiece in any thoughtfully curated space.

Vintage American Hand Hooked Rug in Block Pattern
Located in Barrington, IL
Vintage American hand hooked area rug in a block pattern circa the early 20th century. The very unique and beautiful design in this vintage folk art hooked rug consists of a 5 x 7 block pattern each containing a different design. The design in this hand hooked rug is unique since the blocks around the perimeter of the rug are in a geometric pattern and the blocks in the center of the rug are in floral pattern. The design is set on a tan color background. The colors in each block are vibrant and make them stand out. Beautiful piece of Americana folk art to be used as a table top display or a wall art.
The hooked rugs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries are made with recycled old material, often used clothing that had been cut into narrow stripes. The foundation of hooked rugs is generally burlap material which the maker uses the stenciling technique to transfer the pattern into the surface. Once the design has been transferred to burlap, it would then be filled with the recycled material stripes and more recently yarn using the hooking technique. The use of special design and the brilliant colors makes this truly an artistic piece wonderful to be used as a wall art or displayed on a table.
