Antique Handwoven Multi-colored Wool Persian Serab Runner

About the Item

This antique Persian Serab runner has a buff-brown field with a curved ribbon and a lozenge at each side of a column of four brick-red, sea-green, shaded blue and pale aubergine-purple hooked lozenges each containing a central outwardly facing floral motif surrounded by angular floral vine, the brick-red and pale aubergine-purple linked stepped spandrels each containing triangular floral motifs, in an ivory and sandy-brown linked stepped lozenge border with a similar smaller lozenge in the centre and part-lozenges at the side between shaded sea-blue inner meandering angular floral vine and outer brick-red and shaded mole-brown reciprocal skittle-pattern stripe. Persian Serab rugs, originating from the Serab region in northwestern Iran, are renowned for their durability and distinctive design. Typically woven by Azerbaijani artisans, these rugs feature a warm color palette dominated by camel, beige, and rust tones, often created using undyed camel hair. Their geometric patterns, including elongated hexagons and diamond medallions, reflect traditional tribal aesthetics. Serab rugs are highly valued for their fine weave and long, narrow dimensions, making them ideal as runner rugs. Their timeless elegance and craftsmanship make them a sought-after choice among collectors and interior designers.
