About the Item

Handwoven in wool circa 1890-1900, this 3x9 textile is a collectible antique Persian horse cover and bag of tribal provenance. On the Design: Connoisseurs will note this piece has been opened up, similar to other nomadic Persian bags, rugs and Kilims of this irregular shape found today. This piece is particularly unique for its high-and-low texture with colorful hand-knotted pile and greige flat weave woven together. Keen eyes will note the variety of geometric patterns and pictorial motifs throughout this piece, which connoisseurs will admire as more personal than many similar pieces found today. It’s a rare find in nomadic folk art and primitive textiles alike—a piece of history and gorgeous old-world charm. Condition: This piece enjoys good condition for its age and origin, and is particularly suitable for wall-hanging projects, tables, scatter rug projects and similar decorative purposes.
