Antique Persian Rug with Polychromatic Floral Patterns, from Rug & Kilim

About the Item

Hand-knotted in wool circa 1920-1930, this 3x4 antique Persian rug is a remarkable signature piece from Persia. It features colorful medallions and geometric patterns on a red field—a lovely design like few even in our collection of Persian pieces. On the Design: Admirers of the craft may appreciate this very special antique rug for being not only an exceptional find from one of the most special provenances, but a rarity to find a floral Persian rug of such versatile size, scale, and love in its every inch. Though polychromatic in its beauty, like a dense and vibrant field of floral and geometric patterns, there’s a notable presence of red hues among the many at work. Connoisseurs will appreciate what an uncommon play of styles this is, with a playful sense of symmetry and scale, too, making it very modern for its age. The field features geometric patterns and medallions in the style of tribal motifs, mostly those of the Bokhara medallion design, with many ram’s horn accents and similar nomadic symbols as play. This is a bold, graphic, personal antique piece; a piece of weaving history most likely from a special workshop with a deep reverence for the charm of floral rugs—this being one of the most elegant and versatile we’ve seen. Condition: This antique Persian rug is in good condition, with minimal wear consistent with age and origin.
