Size: 12'8" × 20'6" (386 × 624 cm)
A highly-structured early 20th century Persian Kirman (Kerman) antique garden carpet, the overall rectangular tile design in a palette of sand, sage and black, with each compartment containing a whimsical tree within a cartouche border.
Since the 13th century, when MarCo Polo admired their skill while traveling through South-Central Persia, the Persian carpet weavers of Kirman have been highly respected. Blessed with an ample supply of very high quality local wool, known as Carmania wool, the craftsmen of Kirman have been weaving their way to the top of the carpet world by Virtue of their craftsmanship, wide range of designs, broad palette of available colors, immense tensile strength, abrasion resistance, and expert color combinations.

Vintage Persian Kirman rug. Size: 5'1 x 8'10. This attractive and tonally muted Kirman from southeast Persia was woven when densely covered grounds were particularly popular. The field color is a soft light teal with accents of dark brown, old gold, ivory and light green. The main border is equally filled with flowering vines and other elements repeating those of the field. Almost randomly, motives outlined in dark brown seem to drift in and out of focus. The all-over pattern has rosettes, leaves and layers of vines. The color variation or abrash is fairly subtle and is not the usual horizontal band variety, all too obvious in carpets with diverse dye lots.
