Eliko Rugs by David Ariel Colorful Antique Persian Bidjar Carpet, Herati FIeld

About the Item

Antique Bidjar rugs are a type of handwoven carpet that originates from the region of Bidjar in Kurdistan, Iran. These rugs are highly renowned for their exceptional durability, unique designs, and luxurious feel, making them highly sought-after among collectors and connoisseurs of Persian rugs. Bidjar rugs are typically handcrafted using a sturdy and time-consuming weaving technique known as "asymmetric" or "symmetrical" knots. This method creates a dense, thick pile that contributes to the rug's renowned durability. They are often made with high-quality wool sourced from the region, providing a soft and lustrous texture. Antique Bidjar rugs boast a wide range of intricate and sophisticated designs, reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the region. Common patterns include floral motifs, geometric shapes, medallions, and intricate Herati or Mina Khani designs. The color palette is often rich and vibrant, featuring hues of red, blue, green, ivory, and gold. One of the most distinctive features of Bidjar rugs is their extraordinary durability. Due to their tight knotting and thick pile, they can withstand heavy foot traffic and maintain their appearance for generations, making them an ideal choice for high-traffic areas. Antique Bidjar rugs are considered prized possessions due to their scarcity and historical significance. Handwoven by skilled artisans, these rugs often have unique variations and characteristics that make each piece distinct and valuable. As antique rugs, Bidjars can range in age, with some dating back several centuries. The condition of these rugs plays a crucial role in their value, and collectors often prefer those that have been well-preserved with minimal signs of wear. Due to their rarity and exceptional craftsmanship, antique Bidjar rugs are highly regarded as valuable investments, with prices varying depending on factors like age, condition, design, and size. Eliko Rugs by David Ariel features this compact, regular small allover Herati design neatly occupies the dark teal and burgundy field with salient pairs of curved leaves and small rosettes. The nearly as dark wine-red main border shows corner palmettes, ragged and torn upright palmettes. The accompanying minors host reversing single geometric flowers.
