Hand-Woven Late 19th Century Wool Bakhshaish Rug from North West Persia

About the Item

This traditional handwoven Persian Bakhshaish rug has a shaded ocean blue field counterposed by broad geometric palmettes issuing complementary floral motif, in a coral red border of scrolling geometric rosettes between a profusion of delicate vine stripes, plain outer beige line stripe. Bakhshaish Rugs (also spelled Bakhshayesh and Bekhshayesh) are named after the city of Bakhshaish which is located in the East Azerbaijan Province of Iran. Bakhshaish rugs typically have a unique combination of an all-over geometric design or graphic geometric medallion combined with a traditional repetitive herati pattern. Bakhshaish rugs brilliantly enhance any room they are placed in.
