About the Item
This Orley Shabahang signature carpet in handspun wool and organic vegetable dyes was completed using Orley Shabahang's signature Cheshmeh weaving technique. The wool is also of Orley Shabahang signature, derived from our own heard of Persian fat-tail sheep in Fars, Iran. The wool is spun by hand using centuries-old techniques to preserve the high lanolin content and tensile strength of its fibers, and the pile is hand-knotted, woven by an artisan weaver in her own home. This carpet from our limited series Music collection is particularly striking with its contrasting colors and asymmetrical design. Using a combination of dyed and undyed wools, the carpet's gray, taupe, cream, beige and black coloration lends itself beautifully to almost any setting.
Orley Shabahang works house to house, village to village with our weavers, working to preserve the art of weaving as a cottage industry, and implementing ancient weaving methods to create the antiques of the future. This carpet includes the signature of our master weaver, Bahram Shabahang, and it is in excellent new condition. The size is 5'9" x 9'6".
