Persian Antique Khorassan Carpet, Red Field

About the Item

The navy field is divided into a lattice pattern enclosing four bottehs in each cell. This is clearly a 19th century Persian textile pattern. The red border displays bull eye rosettes along a navy tendril. The fine weave indicates that an origin in the town of Dorokhsh, famous for high quality carpets, is likely. The pile is somewhat low, but the rug has excellent colors and was woven in the pre-export period, before 1880 or so.
