Traditional 1940s Wool Persian Nahavand Rug, 5' x 7'
About the Item
Woven in the Hamadan province of Iran, this traditional Persian carpet is hand-knotted and belongs to Orley Shabahang’s World Market Collection. The hand-knotted construction produces a pile that is soft and plush and a functional and durable foundation. The black, red, blue, orange and pink hues of yarn come from organic vegetable dyes, while the cream and brown tones are all-natural shades of wool. Favored for their vibrant and fade-resistant tones, Persian weavers still prefer these organic dyes. The carpet measures exactly 4'11" x 7'6" and remains in good condition consistent with its age.
Orley Shabahang takes pride in selecting and curating the finest vintage and antique carpets, ensuring that the preservation of this ancient art form will endure for generations to come.

Vintage Qashqai Animal Rug, Red, Wool, Circa 1940s, 4’ x 6’
Located in New York, NY
This Persian Qashqai carpet circa 1940 was created using a wool warp, wool weft, hand-knotted pure wool pile and natural vegetable dyes. The central lion design is rather striking in the way it contrasts the carpet's red field, as well as in its detailed facial features. In Persian folklore, the lion symbolizes kingship, prestige, and the protection of sacred spaces. Its power is beautifully conveyed by the weaver of this piece, who created this carpet for ceremonious purpose. Taking a closer look at the border, one can see Qashqai villagers dancing in celebratory robes, indicating that this was likely woven as a wedding carpet...
