Vintage Circa 1940 Red Persian Sarouk Hand Knotted Rug, 6'9 X 9'9

About the Item

Vintage Circa 1940 Red Persian Sarouk Hand Knotted Rug, 6'9 X 9'9. The vintage rugs of Sarouk, from the Arak province town of that name and surrounding villages, were created to satisfy American demand for a very thick, dense, very long wearing carpet with enough oriental touches to make them instantly identifiable. The wool is amazingly good and the dyes, although in a relatively narrow range, are warm and inviting.

Vintage Persian Afshar Rug Carpet, circa 1940 5'7 x 9'9
Located in New York, NY
Vintage Persian Afshar rug carpet, circa 1940, 5'7 x 9'9. The antique tribal rugs of the Afshar tribe are woven primarily in southwest Persia and come in a bewildering variety of designs, some indigenous, some adapted from other tribes or urban sources. Normally they are in scatter sizes, 3-4 feet by 5-7 feet, with a few room size carpets. Afshar rugs may be symmetrically or asymmetrically knotted, on cotton or wool foundations. Similarly, the attractive color schemes range from light to dark, ivory to navy. The informal, but charming, patterns may be medallions, arabesques, allover textile designs or abstract geometric motives. A few Afshars are located in Azerbaijan province, northwest Persia. The Afshars originated in Central Asia and came to Persia in the 18th century with the conqueror Nader...
