Vintage Persian Bakhtiari Carpet
About the Item
Bakhtiari rugs and carpets are woven in the Chahar Mahal region, which consists of villages having Persian, Turkish, and Armenian populations near the city of Shahr Kurd. This area is located southwest of Isfahan and north of the Zagros mountains. Weavers work from charted designs, and working looms are set up in their residences. The lustrous, excellent quality wool used in these rugs is indigenous to this region. The patterns executed in vibrant coloration often have compartmented fields, consisting of either rectangular or lozenge-shaped panels containing stylized plant motifs, and is referred to as a “Garden” design. This example is 14' 0" x 10' 4".
