The allover geometric design, composed of wide and narrow horizontal bands, is decorated with a variety of ambiguous motifs and tribal symbols that speak to the Shirvan people’s beliefs in protection, fertility, and good fortune. At the heart of this kilim are the striking stepped hexagonal medallions, adorned with scorpion motifs, believed to provide protection, and Elibelinde (Hands on Hips) symbols, representing motherhood and fertility. These symbols are complemented by Bereket motifs, further reinforcing the theme of fertility.
