About the Item
Made with handwoven wool, this 14x20 oversized rug is an exciting new addition to Rug & Kilim’s Scandinavian rug collection—a contemporary reimagining of Swedish minimalism and vintage rugs and textiles of Rollakan and Rya traditions.
On the Design:
This piece enjoys smart compartmentalisation in gray, white, and subtle black salt-and-pepper tones—alternating diagonally in the geometric patterns for an almost positive-negative colorway play with a smart sense of movement across scale. Connoisseurs may note the abrashed play of the hues, born of our undyed natural yarns accenting the geometry with exceptional movement as well as a subtle nod to the weaving traditions of this acclaimed mid-century modern style. Keen eyes may note a subdued hint of beige in the lighter grays, dually attesting to this technique (as does the sheer brightness of the white, unachievable in other techniques and playing beautifully into the cool presence of this flat weave).
Our flatweave’s more durable, weighted body is also a hallmark of the collection, made for high-traffic and heavy-furniture spaces. This, alongside several elements detailed here, represent R&K Principal Jahanshah Nazmiyal’s hope to honor this mid-century modern aesthetic. His Scandinavian Collection is a contribution to that style, and a renaissance for its designs with more comfortable, current techniques.
