Turkish Kilim Konia Light Blue Background Decorated with Ram's Horn

About the Item

Those who know the language of the Kilim read it like a book understanding what the weaver tells. Like a mirror, the Kilim reflects the life of the woman who wove it and the culture of the group to which she belonged. It is common to find in the Kilim a symbol that contains the power of the object represented. The motif “Koçboynuzu” (Ram's horn) which is the characterizing element in our kilim, represents virility, paternity and courage. Elements such as shadow and perspective that serve to represent external reality as they cannot be applied to weaving, they leave room for the symbolism of motifs and colors. Far from being a limit, this imperative imposed by technique has meant that in the Kilims and in the geometries of his drawings emerge not only what can be seen and touched but also emotions and even more that archaic soul that cannot be described if not resorting to abstraction. This gives the kilim great value both as a work of art and as a cultural testimony.
