About the Item
Attributed to Jean-Michel Frank (1893-1941)
Modernist designer Jean-Michel Frank was able to combine his love of beautiful
materials with his preference for strict geometric forms. In due to his strict
adherence to geometrical forms and simple unobtrusive design elements, many
times he was required to design and create many of the items needed in his
projects and in many of his projects not only would he had to design the
interiors but also the other furnishings of the room such as the furniture, wall
fabrics, light fixtures, the hardware’s as well as the carpets and the other means of
floor covering.
The present piece is amongst the few Aubusson's that show the clear influence of
Jean-Michel Frank’s design.
The power of the clear and simple geometrical designs combined with
the grand scale of the piece is what makes this piece uniquely a Jean-Michel
Frank Signature piece.
The design of the rug makes that very easily fit in to many varied but related
styles of decorating such as English Arts & Crafts (William Morris),
American Prairie style (Frank Lloyd Wright) and the French Art Deco
( Jean-Michel Frank ).
With its wide linear/cubical border design and vast open expanses of the field,
unbroken by any design element except for gradually varying tones of the same
shade color, it has an understated elegance that can only be created by the master
designer Jean-Michel Frank.
This monumental French Art Deco Aubusson carpet, attributed to Jean-Michel Frank, epitomizes the refined modernism of 1930s France. The design celebrates simplicity and proportion, featuring a soft yellow ground framed by a minimalist blue geometric border, a hallmark of Frank’s understated luxury aesthetic.
Woven in fine wool with a flat weave, this extraordinary piece embodies the avant-garde spirit of Art Deco interiors while maintaining timeless elegance. Its vast proportions make it an ideal statement piece for a grand salon, gallery, or sophisticated modern interior, where its serene palette and balanced design provide both subtlety and gravitas.
