Ettore Sottsass "Carpet for Max" Edition Atelier of Elio Palmisano

About the Item

Hand-knotted rug with pure wool yarn on cotton warp. Node density: 90,000 per square meter. Hand-finished with intaglio shaving. Designed and implemented in 1989. Limited edition of 5. Elio Palmisano's atelier represents one of the few Italian businesses (if not the only one) to have produced a large number of tapestries and carpets during the second half of the 20th century, in synergy with contemporary artists. From 1968 to about 2005 Palmisano created a collection of nearly 320 subjects, including tapestries and rugs, designed by renowned artists and designers from Giacomo Balla to Ettore Sottsass. Using ancient craft techniques, Palmisano has truly succeeded in weaving the scenario of 20th century Italian art. Elio Palmisano's manufacture has been much talked about in the nearly four decades of its existence, during which his works were appreciated and valued especially by the new design world.
