Green Floreal Savonerie Circular Rug by Gabriel Englinger, circa 1920

About the Item

Savonerie carpet made by designer Gabriel Englinger (1898–1983) representative of the model of aesthetic taste that spread in Europe and the United States between the “roaring Twenties” and the thirties of the 20th century. The Déco style, especially in its initial phase, finds ample space in the field of decorative arts, managing to give new impetus to the sector of object and furniture design. Our carpet is a classic example with its warm colors and stylized floral motif, created to harmonize with the furniture of the time that was elegant and well-finished, also precious in the choice of materials such as lacquer, inlaid wood, leather of shark or zebra, stainless steel, aluminum, colored glass.

The productions of Savonerie over the years have become multiple, the most popular in addition to the French are the Spanish and Austrian. They were manufactories created specifically to produce large carpets intended for sumptuous noble palaces. Since the end of the 19th century many manufactories have also begun to produce carpets of different sizes, always with a decoration dictated by a Western style furniture...
