About the Item

Antique Renaissance carved throne with decorative wood panels in solid hand-carved walnut, as well as the two crowns panels. The Throne with the two crowns have been restored and polished with wax. This beautiful throne with crowns comes from the famous castle "CATAJO" , Due Carrare - Padua. Measures throne in cm: H 140/50, W 69, D 53 Measures crowns in cm: H 150, W 140, D 10. About Castle Of Catajo: The castle of Catajo is a monumental building of 350 rooms, considered the palace of the Euganean Hills; it was built starting from the 16th century by Pio Enea I Obizzi , near Battaglia Terme (Padua). Enlarged by the same family in the 17th and 18th century it was later transformed into a ducal palace by the Asburgo-Este family, dukes of Modena and Reggio and finally elected Imperial Holiday Residence of the Hapsburg Emperors of Austria. The castle is still today privately owned and open to the public with a museum function.

Late 19th century pairs Venetian hall chairs by Atelier Cadorin, in wood of walnut, hand carved. The two chairs are upholstered with original red velvet fabric. One of the two seats has a slight tear, which does not disfigure the seat, but will be repaired before delivery, or will be re-upholstered again of the same quality if requested by the buyer. About Cadorin Vincenzo (1854-1925) Venetian sculptor born in 1854, he was trained in the studio of Benvenuti, he then studied at the Venetian Academy. In 1883 he exposed his first works in Rome and in the next year he won the Gold Medal in the exposure in Turin. (Luisa GIORDANO, Cadorin, Vincenzo, in Biographic Dictionary of the Italians, XVI, Rome 1973, p. 97). His most known work is the gilt carved wooden desk given to the Pope Pio X for his sacerdotal jubilee in 1908; the desk is now in the Basilica Della Salute in Venice. He died in 1925.
