1950's Solid Oak Versatile Arm Chair by Jack Van der Molen
About the Item
The most comfortable wooden framed small scale lounge chair I have ever sat in. Designed by Jack Van Der Molen for the Jamestown Lounge Furniture Company during the 1950’s.
Constructed of solid white oak with a clear finish it is sound and sturdy with just enough upholstery to keep it comfortable yet streamlined. Research indicates the series was designed for executive office use. Contradictory to its intended purpose its demure scale lends it to elegant dwelling installations as well. This chair originally in camel colored leather with contrasting welts. Currently in a Christopher Hyland silk which gives the simple chair an air of elegance. It is finished off with nail heads. The chairs frontal colonnade arm support give it a classic look while the back buttress supports between back leg and upper back give the chair an arts and crafts Gothic reference. It is an extraordinarily versatile chair.

MCM Grand Haven Chair by Jack Van der Molen for Jamestown Lounge in Blue Fabric
By Jamestown Lounge Company, Jack Van der Molen
Located in Topeka, KS
Gorgeous Mid-Century Modern Grand Haven dining or accent chair designed by Jack Van Der Molen for Jamestown Lounge Company. Beautiful vintage condition. We had the foam replaced in the original cushion, but it still wears its original blue hopsack fabric. We have deep cleaned the fabric but there are still hints of staining. Hard to find but it is there. I would not be afraid to use it however. The original webbing has been replaced and the wood has been restored to its original glory. However, you may still find small imperfections as it is a vintage piece. Please see photos, circa 1950s-1960s
Roses are red, violets are blue, and so is this awesome Grand Haven chair we have to offer you!!! We have a vintage ad that denotes these as “the famous Grand Haven chair, winner of the coveted House Beautiful Classic Award given for exceptional value in design, construction and comfort.” That couldn’t be more accurate! Besides the obvious beauty, this chair is super comfortable and ready to grace your mid-century modern home with its bold presence. It wears its original blue “hopsack” fabric, and we had the foam replaced in the original cushion, so it is closer to its original condition. This would be a wonderful accent chair to have in your entry way for sitting as you remove your shoes or a king chair at your dining table. Wherever you choose to put it, this chair is sure to be your new conversation piece.

Jamestown Lounge Company of Jamestown, New York was founded in 1888 by four partners. They first manufactured, obviously from their name, only lounges. These were long armless, backless, upholstered pieces with a hard roll at one end…what my mother always called a “fainting couch”. They soon added other box couches and convertible sofa beds leading into full manufacturing of all kinds of case and upholstered goods. They are famous for their Feudal Oak...
