About the Item

This elegant British Colonial 1810-1830 Campeche chair is made of solid mahogany and was known in Jamaica as a Spanish chair in the period. This West Indies Planter chair is one of the finest examples of this Regency Form made in the Caribbean. The classic swan neck crest rail crowns a leather panel headrest above a medieval slung leather seat of Spanish roots. The scrolled arms are attached to the mahogany side seat rail with Sheraton turned arm supports. This Regency Planters chair has a fine serpentine seat rail framed by rare staked ring reeded vase turned front legs. The sloped stiles are crowned with neoclassical ears that continue down to the frontal legs. While the back saber legs show am earlier form.
