Art Nouveau Mahogany Armchair

About the Item

An intriguing French Art Nouveau armchair–no doubt inspired by the design language of the Vienna Secession movement in the same time period–synthesizing clean, architectural influences with elements of the natural world. This comfortable, barrel-back armchair has a rolled edge on the handrail and straight splats flanking an upholstered panel for an inside seat back, matching the damask type textile with fierce lions wrapping the seat. The square, tapering legs of the front are carved with low fluting each side, developing into a quatrefoil foot at the floor that is neither a claw nor a paw but undeniably unique. Be sure to view the detailed images to see the current condition of this unusual chair design.
