Carl Malmsten Samsas Armchair, Newly Produced, Designed in 1960

About the Item

Samsas was designed in 1960 and is regarded as the most typical item of Carl Malmsten's upholstered furniture. The Samsas model is a further development of the original Konsert armchair model, which Carl Malmsten designed for the Stockholm Concert Hall in 1923. In designing his furniture, Carl Malmsten took inspiration from Swedish nature and culture. He gave his furniture names that aroused associations. The name Samsas is a Swedish word meaning: getting along. O.H. Sjögren has successfully produced this item of furniture for over 50 years. The framework is made of solid pine from Swedish forests. The seat has nozag springs and the padding consists of cold foam, polyether and fibrefill. The legs are made from solid oak. All production is done at O.H. Sjögren’s factory in Tranås, Sweden. The name of the fabric is Fiord and is produced by Kvadrat in Norway. The fabric has a composition of 92% wool and 8% nylon and has a martindale of 60.000.
