About the Item

The armchair has a simple and very lightweight structure. Its clean lines, with smooth and rounded edges, blend with the meticulous handwoven pattern. In this handwoven fabric, crafted by a family of artisans from Bacalar, Mexico, the "partridge eye" technique is used with cotton or nylon thread. The design of Cocom armchair draws its inspiration from the wicker rockers and armchairs traditionally woven in Yucatan. Nowadays, this tradition is fading away, along with the art of hand-weaving chairs. That's why the intention behind the design of the Cocom collection is to remember and reclaim that heritage. This piece merges tradition with modernity and elevate craftsmanship to its highest expression in terms of attention to detail. _ Ziricote (Cordia dodecandra) Classified as precious tropical hardwood, this remarkable species has a completely irregular grain, whose semi-circular patterns are not found any other type of wood. It is extremely hard. Its color is dark brown with thin black and irregular lines that contrast sharply with the light cream-colored sapwood. Ziricote is a very rare wood. _ Our pieces have a finish based on natural waxes and oils that protect the surface, accentuate the grain and texture and preserve the warm feeling of the wood. All the wood that we work with to create our pieces comes from local "ejidos" (communal land) with responsible forestry management programs and certificates.
