About the Item

The iconic 'Elizabeth' chair was designed by Ib Kofod-Larsen in 1956 and was presented at the Copenhagen Cabinet-makers’ Guild Exhibition the same year. Originally known under model 'U-56', the chair received the name ‘Elizabeth’ after Queen Elizabeth II acquired an example during a state visit to Denmark in 1958. This particular chair was executed by the master carpenters Christensen & Larsen in Denmark in the late 1950s. The chair is stamped with the carpenter's stamp on the interior of the frame. The exquisitely crafted, sculptural carved frame of the chair is in solid teak wood. The chair is upholstered in a high quality, checkered wool fabric in different green tones. A striking and visually appealing armchair from all angles, making it a perfect chair for a freestanding placement in a room. The chair is in very good condition. The teak wood has been carefully restored, preserving the original patina. The fabric is in overall good vintage condition with minor wear. This rare and iconic armchair was designed by Kurt Olsen in 1955 and produced by Slagelse Møbelfabrik in Denmark as model no. 221. A standout piece of mid-century Danish design, it showcases Olsen’s signature sculptural lines and refined craftsmanship. Generously proportioned, the chair features a distinctive wing-shaped backrest that offers both exceptional comfort and an enveloping, supportive feel. The sharply angled back legs create a dynamic silhouette, drawing the eye forward to the elegantly curved solid oak armrests. The legs are crafted in solid teak. This chair has been professionally refinished and reupholstered. The interior upholstery has been renewed, while the exterior is in a luxurious grey tweed fabric by Élitis. The textile boasts a nuanced, multi-tonal palette—subtle flecks of ivory, grey, brown, and pale blue lend depth. Often affectionately referred to as Kurt Olsen’s “Papa Bear...
