JIndrich Halabala re-upholstered patinated bentwood lounge chairs from the 1930s

About the Item

JIndrich Halabala re-upholstered patinated bentwood lounge chairs from the 1930s, Czech Republic. These iconic lounge chairs originate from Czechia and date back to around 1930. They were produced by Thonet and designed by Jindrich Halabala, exemplifying mid-century design in Central Europe. The chairs feature a sleek and uncomplicated geometry that contrasts with the soft, comfortable seat, accentuated by dynamic bentwood elements. Using modernist principles, Halabala crafted a distinctive aesthetic that is passionate, streamlined, and humanistic—ideal for creating inviting and functional domestic spaces. The chairs have been re-upholstered in a comfortable fabric, and like all our upholstered pieces, they can be newly upholstered to suit your specifications. We have many of these armchairs available, making them perfect for interior projects, such as restaurants or hotels. Note: We have over 12 pairs available in their original upholstery, which is ideal for larger projects. About the creator: Jindrich Halabala was born in 1903 in the Czech Republic. He began his career as an apprentice in his father's workshop. After gaining experience and knowledge in woodworking, he studied at the Academy of Applied Arts in Prague. Upon graduating in 1926, he joined Bohumil Hübschmann's studio in Prague and later served as Artistic Director for the UP Company. This company adapted its production processes to align with new consumption trends and mass production. As a result, Halabala assumed new responsibilities, leading to the creation of high-quality furniture that remains competitive with other leading European manufacturers.
