Lina Bo Bardi Armchair / Authentic Mid-Century Modern

About the Item

Sculptural qualities define this object. A vivid dynamic between the different volumes and surfaces, showing different qualities from different angles. Its expressive form offers a complex composition shaped by light and shadows. That is a one-of-a-kind piece – unique and outstanding, it holds a museum exhibit quality. An artefact for collectors and connoisseurs. A piece without any compromises. Highly valuable, rarely even offered by auction houses. However, it comes with a price. This piece originates from São Paulo residential buildings. The dominant feature of the silhouette is the iron hairpin frame, together with the wood support of the seat, which introduce dynamic into the shape. Radical approach in design is expressed through experimental use of different materials – iron, wood and upholstery. Although stiff at first sight, the shape is playful and liberated, which is no wonder, as Lina Bo Bardi had her own aesthetic language which was shaped by different influences, with an accent on vernacular architecture. Apart from the upholstery which was redone according to the original technique, all parts are authentic and in their original condition, with soft restorations. I think the piece blends well with many interior styles. As a chair with a strong industrial character and an unusual shape, it is an excellent addition to each space. P! Galerie’s selection is mainly focused on design masterpieces between 1918 and 1970. Apart from rare French mid-century modern design artefacts by Pierre Jeanneret, Jean Prouvé, Le Corbusier, and Charlotte Perriand, our offer includes masterpieces of historic importance and value by Gerrit Rietveld, Lina Bo Bardi, Marcel Breuer, Oscar Niemeyer, or, for example, Eileen Gray. Following all ethical and juridical requirements, all items from our carefully curated collection come with a certificate of authenticity. We try to preserve as much of patina as possible during the process of restoration, as it defines these historic pieces. Not only do we cooperate with museums and offer auction houses our services and expert opinion, we also look forward to welcoming you as a private collector and connoisseur.
