About the Item

Pair of teak wood armchairs designed by Danish designer Illum Wilkelsø (1919-1999) and made by Niels Eilersen 1960s This pair of armchairs, made in the 1960s by XX for the Cappell collection, is a remarkable example of vintage design with clean, essential lines. The high-quality teak frame gives strength and durability, typical of Scandinavian design of that period. The teak frame displays a smooth, natural finish, highlighting the beauty of the wood and its characteristic grain. The upholstered cushions, for maximum comfort, are covered in genuine leather. Over time, the leather has developed a patina that adds character and charm to these armchairs, making them unique pieces. However, some missing buttons on the cushions are noticeable, a detail that, while not compromising the functionality of the armchairs, testifies to their history and use over the years. These armchairs embody the minimalist elegance of the 1960s, combining simplicity of design with high-quality materials, making them perfect for those who appreciate the vintage aesthetic and craftsmanship of the era Dimensions: H 70cm.; h seat 31cm.; width 68cm. and depth 53cm. Danish furniture designer Illum Wikkelsø (1919-1999) said that furniture should be made of high-quality materials to last, should accommodate the body comfortably and naturally please the eye. He studied cabinetmaking and thus began his career working for famous architects. A profound connoisseur of the best materials, he opened his own studio and signed several collections. Thus becoming a leading player in Danish design internationally. NIELS EILERSEN Niels Eilersen opened his workshop in 1895 and began producing carriages, he was the first person in Denmark to use steam to bend wood. With the arrival of the internal combustion engine began, and the first automobiles, he began to make handmade bodies. Later beginning to produce linear chairs in collaboration with many designers.
