Studio ALM has worked on a second collab with Maker & Son.
The point of departure is the armchair itself—that improbably generous piece of furniture is often called the most comfortable chair in the world. People don’t simply buy a Maker & Son chair; they keep it, they live with it, they share it. Which is why the option to renew its skin, to change the cover without changing the chair, feels like aquiet revolution. Permanence and reinvention can, in fact, coexist.
The inspiration came, as before, from elsewhere: Jenny Kee and Linda Jackson, Sonia Delaunay and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac, those unlikely but inevitable kindred spirits. From there, ALM found its way to Zigzag Zurich, where the Pop Memphis vocabulary, and his commitment to community ethics, gave us permission to think boldly again. It had to be about graphics, and about texture—just as it was the first time. So we chose either Merino wools and cottons some hand-dyed from Senegal, some from our friends from ZigZag Zurich, because fabric is never just fabric: it is work, it is dignity, it is time made visible. And from these materials, the invitation is both practical and poetic: to reinvent the armchair you already own—or else to invent a new one entirely—with your choice of fabrics, your story stitched into its seams.
