About

One of the iconic design by American woodworker George Nakashima, this bench was custom-made for a client in 1960 using walnut slab with spindle back and free front edge. The front edge also displays various work trails, a natural occurrence in the wood that Nakashima preserved as part of the design. This early design manifests the influence of both Japanese woodwork and American shaker furniture on Nakashima's work. Clients name was pencil marked to the underside. A copy of original order card dated to 1960 and a letter of authentication from Nakashima Studio by Mira Nakashima will accompany the bench.
