About the Item
Oregon Pine Bench with Oil Finish
This bench, made from Oregon pine with an oil finish, is inspired by the classic Shaker meeting house bench. Shaker furniture is considered one of the foundations of contemporary design due to its minimalist formalism and practical elegance. This interpretation emphasizes a key aspect of traditional Shaker design: the subtle balance of asymmetry.
The bench features three legs, each supported by diagonal stretchers—two pointing left and one right on one side, and vice versa on the other. The design creates a harmonious yet unconventional balance. Handcrafted using only wooden joinery, this piece requires no hardware. It is shipped fully assembled, and both the dimensions and wood type can be customized to suit your specific needs, offering flexibility without sacrificing the integrity of the design.

frank buschmann
Frank Buschmann (1969-Pinetown, South Africa), artist / craftsman /designer .
Trained as a industrial designer and cabinetmaker. Of German origin, currently living in Galicia, Spain. He spent his childhood in South Africa and Nigeria, his adolescence and education in Germany, where he studied cabinetmaking at the Karlsruhe School of Crafts. In the Netherlands he studied Industrial Design at the Design Academy in Eindhoven, where he has been later teaching in the Master "man and humanity". Frank argues that the mastery of a trade is a carrier of tools exemplary for the sustainability of the future. Being a master of a trade is not reduced to the virtuosity of handling some techniques but also supposes a long learning to recognize and cultivate specific attitudes and values. With this approach, Frank intends to recover and maintain the knowledge and practice, not only of the traditional techniques and processes of cabinetmaking, but also its values: patience, intuition and the search for perfection. The virtuous management of techniques goes through the learning of values and attitudes and, all of them, he considers, are universal tools needed to deal with the complexity of the future.

Materials: Solid Oak & Walnut.
MAZER COLLECTION:
Mazer represents a series of geometric sculptures, each a celebration of the fundamental beauty and natural variation of stone. Strict brutalist forms of the table and seating collection are juxtaposed by soft organic cutaways carving through the porous stone surfaces, revealing the natural beauty and character of travertine. Named after the medieval term ‘Mazer’ meaning bowl, the collection presents subtle organic forms proportioned for table and seating function designed for permanence. Porous formations of the stone’s structure act as an intentional disruption to the clean geometric forms of the series adding character and intrigue. The limited edition series was crafted from travertine and locally produced in Italy from a combination of machine and traditional hand made processes, each piece exhibiting its own unique characteristics and form with no one piece alike. Mazer is designed by Australian designer Tom Fereday exemplifying Fereday’s desire to honour materiality, combining form and function to produce enduring works.
Tom Fereday develops products based on the principle of honest design, conveying a design process which celebrates the materials and manufacturing processes behind furniture and products, to design from the inside out. By using the materials and environment as a positive design constraint we guide intelligent and thoughtful design outcomes which connect with people through natural materials, tactile finishes and unique design. We strive to create enduring designs which are meaningful to people and their environment.
Born in Australia, Tom Fereday grew up in England studying at the Wimbledon School of Art before moving to Sydney to complete an honours in Industrial Design at the University of Technology Sydney. Working across europe and Australia Tom Fereday went onto found his sole practice in 2012.
