Locus Solus Daybed by Gae Aulenti for Poltronova, Italy 1964

About the Item

An iconic 'Locus Solus' daybed designed by Gae Aulenti for Poltronova in 1964. This meticulously crafted daybed highlights Aulenti's expertise in blending form and function. The minimalist design features a straightforward, tubular frame with gently curved edges composed of chrome-plated steel. The cushion has been freshly upholstered in caramel hued chenille fabric that feels soft to the touch, accented with button tufts, welt detailing, and two coordinating bolster pillows. Italy, 1964. Aulenti's work, part of the avant-garde Postmodern movement, broke away from traditional modernist conventions, celebrating Italy's rich cultural heritage while incorporating innovative design. The 'Locus Solus' daybed is a testament to her visionary spirit and lasting influence in art, architecture, and design. Gae Aulenti (1927-2012), a luminary in Italian architecture and design, was celebrated for her post-war style and industrial innovations. As the art director of FontanaArte, she introduced a range of modern, groundbreaking designs. Aulenti's legacy is profound, not only for her contributions to design but also as a pioneering woman in a predominantly male field, cementing her status as an iconic figure in Italian design and architecture. Condition: Great overall vintage condition. Minor oxidation along the chrome frame that aligns with age and use. This daybed has been freshly upholstered by our team of restorationists in a durable cotton blend chenille fabric that feels soft to the touch with new medium density foam and button tufts. Includes two bolster pillows. Fabric Samples are available upon request.
