Designed in 1965 - Paradisoterrestre Edition 2018
Materials: shaped polyurethane, polished aluminum brackets, removable wool fabric manufactured by Kvadrat or chenille velvet fabric (different colours available).
The Marcel collection, a seating system developed in 1965, was a tribute by Dino Gavina to Marcel Duchamp, his dear friend. Sofas, armchairs and pouf designed by the architect Kazuhide Takahama, are the result of the fruitful and long-lasting artistic collaboration with Gavina.
This new type of modular system, based on a never-ending number of possible combinations in space, was unknown to the traditional definition of furniture and based on large shaped polyurethane blocks supported by aluminium brackets. Starting from the pouf in its elementary form, Takahama designed a series of complementary elements that combined functional as well as figurative needs, reinventing both the form of the seats and their supports.
The production of the Marcel collection fits with originality in the design of the 60s and has long influenced the Pop aesthetic, thus affirming creativity but also methodological rigour and industrial innovation. Takahama’s aim was the search for a lasting quality in the long run together with a timeless original form.

Kazuhide Takahama
Kazuhide Takahama was a Japanese designer born in Miyazaki, Japan. After graduating from the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1953, Takahama designed the Japanese Pavilion for the Milan Triennale. There he met Dino Gavina, and over the next decade, Takahama designed several pieces for Gavina.
Later, Takahama also collaborated with B&B Italia, Simon and Knoll, just to name a few. His designs are clear in line and shape and have a high-quality design. With the functionalist approach to modernism, he designed with a Japanese sense of material and aesthetics conveniently combined with Western elements.

Paradisoterrestre
Historic Italian design brand Paradisoterrestre was conceived in the late Seventies by eclectic and subversive Dino Gavina (1922 – 2007) and relaunched in 2017 by Gherardo Tonelli. In its new course Paradisoterrestre presents a catalogue ranging ranging from re-editions of historical pieces - designed among the others by Roberto Matta, Kazuhide Takahama and Man Ray - to new collections in collaboration with designers and artists such as Pierre Gonalons, Tobia Scarpa, Paola Pivi and Allen Jones. Paradisoterrestre offers also a curated selection of vintage collectible design and artworks realized by great masters among which Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, Luigi Caccia Dominioni, Ignazio Gardella, Vico Magistretti, Enzo Mari, Carlo Scarpa, Tobia Scarpa, Kazuhide Takahama, Augusto Betti, Alberto Biasi, Roberto Matta, ... In 2018 Paradisoterrestre opened its gallery in Bologna, a hybrid space between art and design, where major exhibitions took place: ULTRAMATTA - Roberto Matta's amazing adventure in the world of design (2019), TOBIA SCARPA - Dall’arte della misura silenziosamente (2020), Paola Pivi - Rock the art (2021), Augusto Betti - Trasversale • Pulsazione • Ritmo (2022) and Cento % Dino (2022).

Dutch industrial designer Gijs Bakker had already established a reputation for his aluminum jewelry when he decided to turn his attention to designing a chair. Inspired by a competition held by Dunlop, the rubber foam manufacturer, Bakker took a piece of foam, bent it at a 90 degree angle, and fixed it in a metal frame. The result was the GB Lounge, a modular lounge chair whose simple silhouette is enhanced by invitingly overstuffed upholstery.
Originally coined “the Levi’s Chair,” Bakker was determined that his design – much like a pair of well-loved jeans – would act as an easygoing antidote to the previous generation’s stiffer tastes. Today, its functionality has been enhanced further with the addition of feet that raise it slightly from the floor for added comfort. Available as a one-seater chair, or with the addition of a pouf, the GB Lounge can be arranged in a variety of ways by connectors that transform it from a solo chair into a multiple seating system.
GB Lounge can be upholstered with textiles from Cassina.
