Listing for European Client. Named 2018 Best of Year Awards Honoree by Interior Design Magazine. KG bench merges mannerism with engineering. Carved out of the finest solid Noce Canaletto (Black Walnut), the sinuous arched profile goes from mysteriously thin to substantial in a continuous swoop. The material has a beautiful straight grain and a light brown color emphasizing the piece's unique geometry. KGB comes in two versions: the one depicted in this listing has a carved top, which invites seating. It's also available with a flat top, ideal for using the surface as a low table.
KG Bench was originally designed as a gift to celebrate the union of two special friends. The first specimen of the bench was delivered to the "newly" weds some two years after the wedding at Miduny, we believe there are no shortcuts for good design.
Designed in Brooklyn by Italian-born architect Ale Preda for Miduny, this artisanal product is made in Italy by master craftsmen. The thick slab of solid black walnut made from 3 full-length boards is carved for several hours on a 5-axis CNC machine, hand-sanded, stained, and finished with a slightly reflective gloss. The legs follow a similar workflow. The overall process takes no less than 25 steps. Each bench features a hand-stamped unique serial number on the underside and comes with a signed “Certificate of Authenticity”.
Like all our products, the KG bench is designed for shipping flat inside a custom built box, and minimal assembly is required. This allows shipping to be more efficient and sustainable. Each of the two legs fits into a carved slot and is attached with two countersunk bolts.

Miduny is an artisanal furniture studio in Brooklyn, New York, led by Italian-born architect Alessandro Preda. Miduny's furniture combines timeless form with warm materials and whimsical accents. Our pieces merge the impeccable craftsmanship and beauty of traditional joinery, with the convenience and sustainability of flat pack. Most miduny designs are intentionally versatile, specifically conceived with a dual purpose. We design and prototype all products in our Brooklyn workshop, and collaborate with master craftsmen in Italy to produce small batches of beautiful, long-lasting, hand-crafted objects. We work with family-owned workshops with three generations of craftsmen under one roof. That allows our pieces to span between traditional detailing and the latest digital technologies.
