About the technique and Timber Bench
A robust furniture collection crafted with standardized construction beams as design principle. The stacking of blocks results in sculptural objects that seamlessly integrate form and function. The deliberate rounding of corners is a nod to the wood’s origin, a visual tribute to the journey from forest to furniture.
The Shou Sugi Ban technique involves the artful charring of wood to enhance its durability and create a distinctive, textured surface. The Timber Bench is made using this traditional Japanese method, resulting in a one-of-a-kind piece that showcases the raw beauty of nature. After sanding the charred top layer, a colored linseed oil finish is applied, creating an unique combination of black hues and color.
About Onno Adriaanse
Studio Onno Adriaanse, founded in 2016 in Eindhoven (NL) after Onno graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven, focuses on sculptural design that merges functionality with emotional impact. Inspired by landscapes and geological processes, the studio creates unique design objects and high-quality interior finishes, characterized by craftsmanship and material exploration. Onno's childhood fascination with nature—stones, animals, and plants—continues to shape his designs, translating natural forms and processes into art.
