About the Item
This set of two Austrian Midcentury stackable plywood chairs have been designed by one of the most important Austrian Midcentury Modern Architects Karl Schwanzer and manufactured by Thonet in the 1950s.
This model was designed by Karl Schwanzer for the Werkbundausstellung in the "Academie der bildenden Künste" in Vienna in 1953. They are made of beechwood and plywood and are in very good vintage condition with some wear and ready for use, one of them with original Thonet manufacturers label.
The Stacking Chairs have been restored some years ago and have been in use.
Karl Schwanzer was one of the most important architects in Austria in the 20th century. He was an assistant of Oswald Haerdtl at the "Akademie für angewandte Kunst Wien" from 1947-1951. Karl Schwanzer became Professor at the Technical University of Vienna in 1959. He was very important in the 1960s besides Roland Rainer.
Karl Schwanzer designed the administrative buildings and the museum for BMW in Munich in 1973.
