About the Item

Introducing a true Danish Modern masterpiece: an ultra-rare "Peacock" or "Hoop" chair designed by the incomparable Ib Kofod Larsen for Selig. This iconic armchair has recently undergone a comprehensive restoration process featuring new upholstery in a fabulous white cotton bouclé by Knoll Fabrics, making it the perfect addition to any modern home. Constructed from a mix of solid and molded plywood European walnut and ebonized in a silky, jet-black gel stain this now iconic accent chair is both durable and stylish, comfortable and utterly breathtaking from every angel. Ib Kofod-Larsen was a venerated architect who formed part of a movement known as Danish Modern. Larsen was a purist and considered himself as more of an artisan than an architect or designer and his extensive catalog is proof of that. He was respected for having an exceptional understanding of materials and an eye for the potential of the wood and the quality of the raw materials he used. He often worked in different types of wood – mainly teak and palisander in combination with real leather and other organic materials like cotton which is why we chose to add the cotton bouclé to this chair in homage to the original design and intention. The Selig Manufacturing Co was at the cutting edge of contemporary furniture during the mid 20th century. Selig Furniture was founded by Mendell Selig and Samuel Wexler in Gardner, Massachusetts in 1931. By the 1950s the company had grown to become one of America's leading importers and producers of contemporary furniture. The company focused on the high end designs being produced in Denmark and other Scandinavian countries. Their product range epitomized the simple, elegant and airy forms typical of post-war Danish furniture design on display in this exquisite "Peacock" chair's aesthetic and form. With it's instantly recognizable winged arms, new upholstery and freshly ebonized frame this icon of Danish design is perfect for both collectors and designers alike searching for an authentic Larsen piece that is ready for a literal lifetime more of use. Equal parts comfort and aesthetics this lounger can blend seamlessly against a multitude of design backdrops from Mid-Century Modern to Contemporary to Minimalism and everything in between. Historically these chairs do not come along often and are quick to sell. Make it yours today before it's gone forever. ---Dimensions--- Width: 33.5 in / 85.09 cm Depth: 28 in / 71.12 cm Height: 33 in / 83.82 cm Seat Height: 18 in / 45.72 cm Arm Height: 20 in / 50.8 cm This ultra-stylish "Peacock" chair has recently undergone a comprehensive restoration process. The mix of solid and molded plywood European walnut frame and legs have been ebonized in a silky, jet-black gel stain and shows only minor nicks too light to be discerned by camera. The cushions, reupholstered in a kind to the touch white cotton bouclé by Knoll Fabrics, is in showroom never-sat-in condition and perfectly offsets the rich, ebonized finish of the frame. The cushions have been replaced with medium density foam for maximum comfort and longevity. This iconic "Hoop" chair is incredibly comfortable, structurally sound and ready for a literal lifetime more of use thanks to it's recent restoration process. Please view all photos and video for details on this "Hoop" chair's current condition. We're limited on the amount of media we can post so additional photos and videos are available upon request.
